Faculty-Student Lunches

Learn about revolutionary ideas one slice at a time.

Faculty-Student Lunches (FSLs), also known as Student-Faculty Lunches (SFLs), are regular SPS-organized lunches during which a faculty member is invited to share their experiences over a hearty (and free) lunch. They are great opportunities to get to know physics faculty in a casual setting! Learn about ground-breaking research, tips to sail smoothly through college, insider information on classes, or just fun facts about the department over delicious pizza. We ask of you only your enthusiasm and an RSVP.

Highlight Reel

A Conversation with Roger Falcone

Roger Falcone, president of the American Physical Society, runs down a long list of questions asked by eager physics students. Undergraduates from across the department regail Falcone with elusive mysteries at the forefront of physics today, namely on quantum information, dark matter, and “real life.”

A Unifying Event

Undergraduate Dean of the College of Letters and Sciences Bob Jacobsen captivates with his tales from the engineering underworld. Jacobsen’s stories are at once inspiring and optimistic, and they reassure us that everyone recovers from engineering eventually.

The Blackboard

When it comes to how great our faculty-student lunches are, the writing is on the wall. Department Chair Wick Haxton’s own FSL (SFL?) draws a sizeable crowd for a chat about his experiences with physics and administration alike. This may just be the most exciting picture on our website!
